All-on-4 dental implants provide a modern solution for replacing your missing teeth. This revolutionary technique allows edentulous patients to receive the same natural-looking and highly functional replacement teeth that dental implants are known for but without the associated lengthy treatment times and recovery periods.

That’s because it uses a patented technique that allows strategic placement of the specially designed titanium implants to provide a “root-like” structural support for your prosthetic teeth. In so doing, this technique requires less dental implants – in many cases, only four are required, hence the name – to be inserted as compared to a conventional implant treatment.

All on 4 dental implants not only provide a permanent set of replacement teeth that offer great stability and durability, tbut the process is also less patient-involved and faster.

The best part is, like all successful dental implant restorations, they look and feel like your own natural teeth. All-on-4 implants are also less cumbersome to maintain as compared to removable dentures – that’s right denture wearers, soaking rituals are no longer necessary. In most cases, you only need to take care of your All-on-4 implants in the same way you would your natural teeth. That said, there are several maintenance tips that would ensure the longevity and durability of your implant-supported teeth.

Post-Surgery Care

In the days and weeks following the surgery, you would need to exercise caution when using the implanted teeth so as not to hinder the healing process. If you experience any pain or discomfort, taking a painkiller or applying cold compress on the affected area usually solves the issue. As per the doctor’s advice, you would need to get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids – around eight glasses of water or fruit juice every day.

It is advisable to stay away from work or strenuous exercise in the initial 2-3 days after the procedure. Keeping your head elevated during the first week or so will also aid in the healing process. Your dentist would provide a course of antibiotics medication and mouth rinse to prevent infection or complications during this important post-surgery juncture. Make sure you follow and complete the course as per the instructions.

Keep Your Implanted-Supported Teeth Clean

As mentioned, you will need to look after your implant-supported teeth as if they are your natural teeth. Implanted teeth are just as prone to infection and bacterial build-up as real teeth are. Making it a point to clean your implanted teeth after each meal will significantly help to maintain the longevity of the prosthetic teeth as well as your overall oral hygiene.

Special dental instruments and brushes designed to clean different type of implants are also available to improve access to hard-to-reach areas and prevent damaging the implanted teeth’s surface. Examples of special brushes include angled brush heads and gentle interdental brushes. Flossing regularly can also effectively remove plaque trapped in the crevices between your implanted teeth. You may also opt for certain types of floss that have specially been designed for implant care.

Periodic Dental Check-ups and Cleans

Last but not least, it is highly recommended that you make regular visits to the dentist to keep your implants healthy and in good shape. These periodic – at least twice a year – checks and cleaning sessions are imperative to make sure that there are no complications or loosening of the restorations. The dentist is also able to remove plaque and tartar deposits that normal brushing and flossing are unable to.
